BUT OF COURSE: Nicolas Cage set to play Joe Exotic in scripted miniseries

In perhaps the most 2020 news yet, Nicolas Cage has been tapped to play Tiger King star Joe Exotic in a new scripted miniseries. Lord have mercy on us all.

Variety reported earlier today that an eight episode miniseries, with American Vandal‘s Dan Lagana stepping in as writer, executive producer and showrunner, has been greenlit by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios.

While not too much is known about the show’s production, it will be based off the Texas Monthly article titled ‘Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey into the World of a Man Gone Wild’. You can read that here.

As for the story, it will be one that people became familiar with thanks to the hugely successful Netflix documentary. It will centre around how Joe Schreibvogel became Joe Exotic, and the ridiculous and extensive measures he went to in order to keep his controversial zoo.

Joe Exotic has enjoyed huge viral success despite his incarceration, with bands such as The Offspring even covering one of Exotic’s singles ‘Here Kitty Kitty’.
