The wait is finally over, folks. The first photos of Jared Leto as Joker in Zack Snyder’s Justice League recut are here.
We’ll all probably never forget Leto’s first take on the character in David Ayer’s 2016 Suicide Squad. I think there’s enough memes on the internet to ensure that we will never forget. But the upcoming recut from Snyder, casts Joker in a new light.
It’s been a long fight for Snyder, who has been trying for a while now to bring his vision of the DCEU cut to fruition. He originally left the 2017 film due to clashes with Warner Bros. leadership, as well as grief over a family tragedy. His vision will finally be copping a release via HBO Max in March.
Joker did not originally feature in either the Justice League 2017 film or the original storyline. However when Snyder was given free reign for this forthcoming cut, he wanted to involve the character, telling Vanity Fair that “The Joker is really the only thing that I thought of in retrospect. But I will say that it was always my intention to bring Joker into that world.”
VF today revealed two exclusive images of what we can expect from the reprised role. Not much has changed in terms of the character’s ambience, but small changes include smudged makeup around his mouth, a noticeable lack of tattoos and a mid-length hairstyle.
In the film, Joker will appear in a dream sequence alongside Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne. The pair will speak about what will happen if the superheroes don’t stop Darkseid from bringing destruction to the world.
“The cool thing about the scene is that it’s Joker talking directly to Batman about Batman,” Snyder said. “It’s Joker analyzing Batman about who he is and what he is.”
“That’s the thing I also felt like fans deserved from the DC Universe. That is to say, the Jared Leto Joker and the Ben Affleck Batman, they never really got together.”
“It seemed uncool to me that we would make it all the way through this incarnation of Batman and Joker without seeing them come together.”
The four-hour event will be debuting on HBO Max on Thursday, 18th March.
