Perth’s Revelation Film Festival Details 2019 Program

Descending on the west coast for another year, the Revelation Perth International Festival is returning this July and the program is nothing short of stacked. With over 144 films, 18 world and international premieres and 60 Australian premieres, Revelation is going large for 2019.

Featuring a series of films from across the globe under the curation of Jack Sargeant, Revelation has been established to champion works of independent cinema, world cinema and genre-specific works of film that are trailblazing in their field.

The festival itself has got a special debut of its own coming this year, with the unveiling of XR:WA – a nine day program of VR and immersive events and experiences including gameplay, workshops, 360 degree films and more. The debut of XR:WA is set to be a gamechanger for Revelation, as film technology pushes more and more into the immersive tech realm.

“We have the opportunity to bring VR, AR and games to local audiences in a way that is unique to Australia in a festival context,” Revelation Director and Founder, Richard Sowada, has said. :It is a truly innovative program structured around ideas of possibility and opportunity.”

The film program, boasting works from not just Australian filmmakers, but those also from Canada, France, Japan, Belgium and more, is an exciting one featuring Dev Patel’s The Wedding Guest, and a 40th anniversary screening of Alien, while for music fans, Revelation has a specially selected series of documentaries and films centred on some iconic names.

Revelation’s Blind Date Music Video Competition invites filmmakers and bands to get involved in collaboration, while on the roster, screenings of A.J Eaton’s David Crosby Remember My Name, Seamus Murphy’s PJ Harvey doco A Dog Called Money and recent SXSW darling Miles Davis: Birth of The Cool will also form wider the program.
