Watch: New Trailer For Julian Assange Telemovie

Network Ten have unveiled the first trailer for telemovie Underground: The Julian Assange Story, which is based on the life of the notorious journalist who is currently taking refuge in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, for fear of being extradited to the US via way of Sweden.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the telemovie was inspired by the book Underground which was written by Suelette Dreyfus and credits Assange as a co-author. Meanwhile Underground: The Julian Assange Story was written and directed by Robert Connolly.

Although it’s unclear how closely the movie recreates reality, it does boast able actors such as Rachel Griffiths, playing Assange’s mum Christine, and Anthony LaPaglia, playing the cop hell bent on catching a teenaged Julian.

As for Assange himself, that role is played by Alex Williams, a graduate of West Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Underground: The Julian Assange Story will make its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival before airing on Network Ten later this year.
