Always wanted to catch a show (or five) at the Sydney Opera House? Now you can bring the magic and wonder of this unique venue into the comfort of your own living room. The iconic music hall has launched a streaming service that allows you to watch a selection of special events, performances, and films from their archive, and many of them are free.
Below, we’ve highlighted five events that you might like to check out on this marvellous streaming service, including talks, behind-the-scenes clips, documentaries, concert streams, and artist conversations. Grab a hot chocolate or a bucket of popcorn and settle in for a night of watching videos from your favourite artists, shot in and around the Sydney Opera House.
Ziggy Ramo – Little Things (feat. Paul Kelly)
This 15-minute video takes a look at the behind-the-scenes of Ziggy Ramo’s directional debut with his single ‘Little Things’ feat. Paul Kelly. The artist discusses his reinterpretation of the classic ‘From Little Things Big Things Grow’, including how the song and music video were created, and Ziggy’s inspiration for creating the piece. Much of the ‘Little Things’ music video is filmed atop the Sydney Opera House sails, and the behind-the-scenes interview is shot within the walls of the iconic building. This video is free to watch.
Wu-Tang’s RZA and Briggs – In Conversation
Another free video available on the Sydney Opera House streaming site is this sit-down discussion between RZA from Wu-Tang Clan and Australian rapper Briggs. RZA is one of Briggs’ biggest musical influences. On their first-time meeting, the two took over the Concert Hall to chat about a range of topics including RZA’a first exposure to hip-hop, Wu-Tang’s influence on Briggs and his music, Inspectah Deck as the unsung MC, the talent of ODB, and why Wu-Tang needed to play the Sydney Opera House.
Sunnyboys – Live + Documentary
Fans of legendary post-punk Sydney band Sunnyboys will love this live show and documentary combo. This stream includes a one night only reunion concert held at the Sydney Opera House for the band’s fortieth anniversary of their debut EP, plus a documentary following lead singer Jeremy Oxley and his 30-year battle with schizophrenia. The concert is 90-minutes of classic songs and was recorded in December 2020. The documentary – called The Sunnyboy – documents Jeremy’s battle with schizophrenia largely told from his own perspective. These two streams can be rented for 30 days for just $25.
Forecourt Concert Series 2021
This series features a collection of free, all-ages concerts shot on the spectacular Forecourt of the Sydney Opera House. Artists include Barkaa, Becca Hatch, Jack River Presents ‘Visions of Us’, JK-47 Live at Barrabuwari – A Sunset Gathering of Music, and MAY-A, just to name a few. These concerts are perfect for a night in watching your favourite artists perform at one of Australia’s most spectacular venues.
All About Women & ANTIDOTE Talks
Big fan of panels and talks? The Sydney Opera House streaming service has got plenty to offer. For $60 you can buy an All About Women Festival Pass that gives you access to watch all of the talks from the 2021 event. These discussions feature Isabel Allende, Koa Beck, Caitlin Moran plus more, and cover topics such as How Smart is Artificial Intelligence, Sex Work & Feminism, and Life: A Survival Guide. The ANTIDOTE Festival is also available to stream on the Sydney Opera House streaming site.
