UK Dj Russ Dewbury founder of the Brighton Jazz Rooms has become the first international dj/promoter to achieve a Distinguished Talent Visa for permanent residency in Australia.
In a musical career spanning 22 years Russ has achieved a reputation as one of the best djs on the worldwide music circuit. Working with everyone from Art Blakey to The Roots Russ is also well known for his Jazz Bop live festival, New Jazz Spectrum Radio show and many Record compilations and productions.
Russ has now relocated to Sydney bringing with him a club concept that is much celebrated by the underground music community running consecutively for over 21 years in the UK and featuring all over the globe “A Night at the Jazz Rooms” is a fresh new live/dj club night for Sydney with Jazz at its core.
Connecting dance vibrations from all strands of black music past present and future is the Jazz rooms unique musical formula with a firm emphasis on energy and fun.
Expect a return to old school clubbing with a new school twist! Expect a killer mix of Jazz/Soul/Funk/Afro/Latin hooked up with Hip Hop/Drum n Bass and House brought to you by resident DJ and host Russ Dewbury and featuring some of the heaviest International and homegrown Djs and live acts around.
This third Night At The Jazz Rooms session takes place at Melt one of Sydney’s most unique venues and features a live performance from the hotly tipped Ray Mann Three.This soulful trio are rightly regarded as one of Sydney’s best kept secrets steadily building a solid following and reputation for classic vocal music with a truly fresh funk spirit. Their debut album Ray Mann Three is destined to take them on to the international stage and this will be a great chance to see them in an intimate setting.
Joining Russ on the decks are Kano – one of Australia’s most respected dj’s and street artists. Melbourne based, Kano has led the way since the late 80s in hard Jazz, Funk, Latin and related grooves……..this will be a rare Sydney appearance.
Huwston – head honcho of arguably Sydney’s best Hip Hop, Soul and Funk label Knowfool Records home to Cookin on 3 Burners and Watussi amongst others completes this musical line up.
Extra aesthetics will be provided by Sydney’s king-of-kook Jay Katz. Better known as part of the eccentric team that brings you the Naked City on FBi radio, Jay Katz will enhance Melt with his own montage of visuals.
