Cypress Hill – Keeping it Real

Fresher then ever and ready to set sail for a national Aus tour are the West coast rappers, Cypress Hill. With record highs selling over 18 million album copies since their beginning and going platinum on several, it’s hip hop at its finest. The boys will be headlining this year’s Coaster Festival and also be running some headline shows in major cities around the country.

So what else can be justified as hip hop. Why does it seem that we can only imagine this genre being done properly with life-effecting lyrics. CH is taking things to higher levels, calibrating rock and roll to their Spanish rhymes. The latest album from CH Rise Up consists of boundaries, out-spoken lyrics and guitar sessions. I assure you now it’s only mind blowing to the unexpected.

“There’s a good chance for some surprises for you guys on this tour ”, Explains Sen Dog. The latest album features such guests as Tom Morello, Everlast, Daron Malakian, Pitbull, Marc Anthonu and Mike Shinoda. A showcase of true rock stars making the return of mixed genre as rappers. “Going out and getting these guys that are hot guitar players already and having them on our tracks makes it more of a bassist’s stand off, and even more dynamic and powerful. You get Cypress Hill and Tom Morello on a song together, it’s going to be dynamite you know, and it’s going to blow up”.

It’s true, CH fans, let alone Rage Against The Machine fans, love the combined friendship of rap and rock and roll. The powerful nature that the people want with it equals out to a mad wait for when you put this on a CD, and it just blows up. People knew this was some crazy shit, but from my point of view it’s like a no-brainer, I knew exactly what to go after.”

The fact that CH have been on the rap circuit since the late 1980s brings to our attention how educated they can be. They’ve been through the toughest of times, experienced already a lot in life and are showing the world they’re still alive. Developing new rhythms and rhymes and showcasing rock with hip hop, it’s where CH feels comfortable right now. Perhaps this could be it or we’ve witnessed a new Cypress being born.
