The summer season is well and truly upon us. The year is winding down and on come those hazy sun-drenched days when the temperatures are high, the drinks are flowing, the barbecues are raging and those poolside parties never seem to stop.
Of course, times like these should be accompanied by the right tunes. And now that our friends over at Ultimate Ears have introduced the UE BOOM, the world’s first ever social music player, you can take your music and start a party everywhere you go.
The UE BOOM‘s both water and stain resistant, and with 15 hours of battery life pool-side is definitely the way to go. Plus it’s made for connecting with others, so if more friends crash the party, you can wirelessly connect two UE BOOMs together with their free app. Surround sound anyone?
So with all those features in mind, Music Feeds have compiled a playlist of our 12 favourite summer-on-the-go tunes perfect to soundtrack your summer-time festivities, anywhere.
Paul Simon – Kodachrome
Who knew a song about a camera line would be so nostalgic? This tune about the hazy filters of summer memories should strike a chord with the Instagram aficionados amongst us.

Violent Femmes – Blister In The Sun
This surf-punk classic plays like an ode to those awkward teenage summer years. Get your hands prepped for those claps, they’re unavoidable.
Eddie Cochran – Summertime Blues
Some of us do it tough over summer and this 50’s rockabilly trail blazer knows all about summer hardships. At just 19 when he wrote the song in 1958, Cochran knew that for teens summer can mean working a shitty job and begging your parents to borrow the car. Some things never change.

Loudon Wainwright III – The Swimming Song
Loudon Wainwright III has got to be one of the most talented and peculiar singer-songwriters around, and this, his ode to swimming styles, is just perfect for a poolside gathering. There’s nothing quite like an amplified banjo and a reference to the “Australian Crawl” swimming stroke.
Superchunk – Out Of The Sun
These indie-rock heroes made a majestic comeback in 2010 with their album ‘Majesty Shredding’ and followed it up this year with ‘I Hate Music’. This poppy gem is for those listless summer moments where you just don’t want to get out of bed. And it’s a warning against the dangers of skin cancer.
The Kinks – Sunny Afternoon
Nothing says summer tune more than references to the high levels of progessive tax taken by the British Labour government of Harold Wilson in 1966. But not all is lost, if the Kinks have taught us anything, it’s when the taxman’s taken everything, you can still sip ”an ice cool beer” while “lazing on a sunny afternoon.”

Snoop Dogg – Gin and Juice
Before he grew a mane, Snoop Dogg was a teenage slacker sipping on gin and juice in his parents’ living room with Dr Dre. This slow groove will be a party favourite at your late-night summer Barbeques.

Blondie – In The Sun
A song for city dwellers, aching to ditch that concrete jungle for some sand and water fun. Debbie Harry combines her New Yorker attitude with sixties inspired surf-rock beats. Surf’s Up!
The Drums – Let’s Go Surfing
This fan favourite tune by The Drums appeared on their appropriately named EP ‘Summertime!’ and lateR on their debut record. This homage to surfing by a land-based New York Band, lodges comfortably in your brain, all summer long.
Weezer- Island In The Sun
Rivers Cuomo is at his happiest here and you could be too. Put on this zone out summer song and float away to some sunny, island isolated heaven. Alternatively, watch Weezer play with wild animals in this Spike Jonze- directed clip.
Alice Cooper – School’s Out
Whether you’re still trapped in school or that end of day bell is now a distant memory, this 1972 song still makes your inner child want to throw those textbooks out the window and head to the nearest beach.
