Splendour In The Grass 2014 has come and gone, and now it’s time to get a bit nostalgic as we fend off the post-Splendour blues. Even after all of the big names, big nights, soaring highs and sore heads, there’s time for some reflection with a shortlist of Splendour 2014’s most splendid moments.

Peking Duk Had A MASSIVE List Of Special Guests

A huge crowd flocked to the Mix Up tent on Friday to hear Canberra’s Peking Duk, and were pleasantly surprised when the duo basically held their own mini-festival inside Splendour In The Grass. Guests included 360, Yeo, The Kite String Tangle and SAFIA. Peking Duk ended their high-energy set with their smash hit single High. Watch The Kite String Tangle join the mighty duo below.

Childish Gambino Stayed Right By Our Side Till… Well, Saturday

Although his rumoured performance with Chance The Rapper didn’t eventuate, the multi-talented Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, closed the Mix Up stage on Friday night, and graced festival-goers with many-a-hit from his 2013 album Because The Internet. Gambino’s set included hit single 3005, which pulled ever so tenderly at our heart-strings. Watch the performance below.

Ball Park Music And Yacht Club DJs Both Played Bohemian Rhapsody

Both Yacht Club DJs and Ball Park Music performed sterling covers of Queen‘s classic song Bohemian Rhapsody, backed by a very, very vocal Splendour crowd. Ball Park Music also got to boogie with Bender, triple j‘s Mayor of Splendour, during their set. Catch the footage below.

The New Amphitheatre Stage Really, Really Works

Now this thing was immense. Splendour’s brand new Amphitheatre Stage, with its wide base and steep hill, made for excellent views and huge crowds who dropped by to catch big names like Violent Soho, Outkast, City And Colour, Lily Allen and Hilltop Hoods. Definitely worth the hike.

The Weather Was Surprisingly Unpredictable, Then Unsurprisingly Predictable

All was fine and dandy as far as the weather was concerned. Until Saturday night, when the heavens inevitably opened. Gumboots abounded as punters scurried to catch English indie troupe Metronomy play cuts from recent LP, Love Letters. The sun eventually returned on Day Three to make sure that a little rain didn’t put a damper on things. The incredible music didn’t hurt either.

Violent Soho Had Their Biggest Ever “Hell Fuck Yeah!”

Brisbane rockers Violent Soho played a massive set to one of the largest audiences of their career on the main Ampitheatre Stage on Saturday afternoon. During Covered In Chrome, the 20,000-strong crowd helped the band belt out the track’s catch-cry, “Hell fuck yeah!” It was awesome.

Future Islands Were Everything You Were Told They Would Be

Future Islands were the band on everyone’s lips, with the onstage antics of frontman Samuel T Herring quickly branded as unmissable. The band proved they were worthy of the hype, with Herring at one point quipping, “I need to slow it down, otherwise I’m going to have a heart attack.”

The Jezabels’ Hayley Mary Got A Little Emotional

As storm clouds gathered over the Amphitheatre on Saturday night, The Jezabels frontwoman Hayley Mary looked out on a sea of eager faces and couldn’t help but get a little emotional. As Tone Deaf reports, Mary was so overwhelmed by the dedication of thousands of fans turning out in the rain to sing-along with every word that she began to cry. The band fittingly closed with Dark Storm.

Nina Las Vegas Was A Bad Ass

After someone at music management company The A&R Department wrote on Facebook that Nina Las Vegas, as a DJ, was partly to blame for the death of live music, Nina got her own back with interest. First, she issued a Facebook post in which she sarcastically confessed to hating live music and doing everything in her power to stop it, like tirelessly promoting other artists since she was 19.

This resulted in an apology from the founder of artist development at The A&R Department, but Nina decided to get the last word in. She took to Facebook with a photo of herself performing at Splendour to a crowd of thousands, with the tongue-in-cheek caption: “Sorry for ruining live music.”

Foals Crowdsurfed Their Way Into Our Hearts…Again

Despite the “tepid response” that Oxford indie-rockers Foals got from Splendour organisers after they requested to play the festival in 2014, the band’s dive-filled set on Saturday proved the band’s festival worthiness. Replacing Two Door Cinema Club, who pulled out of their headlining slot, Foals used their “last-minute hero” status to elevate their set and show festival organisers around the world what they’re capable of.

Outkast Actually Really Truly Played In Byron Bay! Plus This Photo Of Andre 3000 Surfing

Despite a shaky start to their reunion, Outkast proved themselves worthy of the immense level of anticipation that surrounded their Australian arrival. Playing through an acclaimed greatest hits set, their performance was bettered only by this photo of Andre 3000 surfing it up. Getting his mind right before an awesome show, Andre stopped by Byron Bay’s Surf School to get a quick surfing lesson.
