Gold Fields have had a big first half of 2013. Off the back of a mammoth run of dates in the US, they hit the tarmac running on return to Australia and launched straight into a national tour to promote their debut album Black Sun, currently underway.
Vocalist Mark Robert Fuller has given Music Feeds exclusive access to his personal snaps from that tour of the States – here he guides us through their marathon American jaunt, highlighting the highs and lows life on the road for a band intent on cracking the big time.
Mark: “At the start of February this year, we flew to the US to spend four months living out of our van, touring and playing shows all around America. We released our first record, played on telly, missed our girlfriends and friends and families and missed our biggest festival show to date because of a flat tyre. We caught weird rashes, and got caught in one of the biggest snow blizzards in North America’s history.
“We played 70-something shows in cities like New York, Los Angeles, Portland, New Orleans, Austin, Salt Lake City, Colorado Springs, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Chicago, Aspen, Sacramento, Santa Ana, San Diego, Washington, Anaheim… We played more cities than we knew existed in the States, and a few in Canada! Some were empty rooms, some were sold-out shows. It was an awesome, mind-bending four months.
“I bought a camera from an op shop in Virginia Beach for three bucks and here’s some photos we took with it.”
