Hip Hop, Hairspray & Hiking Boots

Next month 2,000 people will be pushing themselves to the limit by walking 100km non-stop through the Aussie bush to raise money and awareness for Oxfam Australia.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Oxfam Trailwalker in Sydney, where teams of four attempt to walk, run (or limp!) their way from the Hawkesbury River to Sydney Harbour within 48 hours.

Kate Doutney, Caroline King, Donna Martin and Katie Rosser, who make up team ‘Hairspray & Hiking Boots’ have been training hard for the event for the last few months. They walk together as a team every weekend on the trail. “All four team members need to complete the walk together, so it’s important that we train together and know where we’re going!” says team member Kate.
The team has also dedicated their time to fundraising. With a target of $5,000, they are well on their way thanks to sponsorships, a raffle and an afternoon tea. The team has also organised what is bound to be a great night of hip hop at the Annandale Hotel on Wednesday 23 July. “The bands are all young local talent who have been more than willing to donate their time for such a great cause,” says Kate. “We are also grateful to the management at the Annandale Hotel who have been very supportive.”
Featured acts for the night are Reverse Polarities, Natural Causes, Rapaport and True Vibe Nation. All proceeds will go to Oxfam Australia, which is a non-profit, independent charity that works with developing communities in Indigenous Australia and around the world.
So come check it out, and help save the planet.
