Jazz With Zaz #6

First off this week with A’Cappella favourites, The Idea Of North in an intimate show at the Basement on Tuesday October 28. They’re doing an interactive show, encouraging audience members to ask questions and make requests.

The same night also sees Jazzgroove at the Excelsior with two sets from Medium Brown, which features Dave de Vries on guitar, John Hibbard on trombone, Jamie Cameron on drums, Ben Waples on bass, Nick Garbett on trumpet, Jeremy Rose on alto saxophone and Hugh Barrett on keys.

October 29 is once again time for Jazzgroove at The Basement for The Alchotlicks album launch. Now if you’re up for a mind blowing experience, this would be it. The trio features the unusual line up of two guitars and drums with Aaron Flower, Ben Hauptmann and Evan Mannell bringing their hot pink punk rock jazz album ‘You, You’ for all to see!

October 30 and November 3 will see The Basement play host to the David Murray Black Saint Quartet from California who is truly one of the greatest tenor players of his generation, with his polyrhythmic world/jazz extravaganza.

Halloween night, sees the Sandy Evans Trio at The Sound Lounge featuring Sandy on Tenor and Soprano saxes, Brett Hirst on Bass and Toby Hall on Drums, showing why she’s one of the most influential women of the Australian Jazz Scene. As well as the Sound Lounge, James Morrison and Emma Pask are taking to the stage at the Basement for their monthly show.

Saturday night, the first day in November at the Sound Lounge is another influential Australian women of jazz – Judy Bailey with her big band the Jazz Connection. The Jazz Connection, which has been going for a number of years features some of the hottest young talent from the Sydney Jazz scene. The Basement also serves it up on Saturday with Leanne Paris and Ray Beadle.

On Melbourne Cup day, Tuesday November 4 you have two fantastic options: 1. Head down to the Basement for the Adrian Cunningham Quartet or 2. Head down to Jazzgroove for The Fantastic Terrific Munkle and The Stu Hunter Experiment. Either will keep the cup spirit going well into the night!

Wednesday night November 5 and lady of Soul Tina Harrod will be at The Basement with special guest Mr Percival. It’s also busy week for Adrian Cunningham who has a special public performance at Chatswood High school on Friday November 7.

Finally,  The Sound Lounge has two fantastic bands on offer: Friday night it’s The World According to James, which features trombonist James Greening and his band and Saturday November 8 it’s the Richard Maegraith band!
