Josh Pyke isn’t happy to rest on his laurels. The highly accomplished musician has released numerous EPs and albums, including the latest effort, 2013’s acclaimed The Beginning and the End of Everything. Pyke, currently on the road with The Lone Wolf tour, has many plans for the coming months, including a tour of regional Australia, before heading over to the UK for more shows.
“I’m really focusing on the solo shows at the moment, we are going to rollout the tour to regional areas once I have done all the city shows,” says Pyke. “Nothing is locked in yet, but we are looking at regional Victoria, southern New South Wales and the Mid-North Coast and then heading up to Queensland.”
The ARIA award winner has been involved in a number of noteworthy collaborations with other artists through the course of his career, including working with 360 and Bob Evans. His latest is a well-received collab with Elefant Traks head honcho and Aussie hip-hop legend, Urthboy.
The track, Someone Else’s House, which aims to raise awareness of the challenges faced by children in foster care, debuted at number 3 on the Australian iTunes chart. Pyke said the track came about after Urthboy, who lives close by in Sydney, approached him to be a part of the project.
“I know Tim, we have the same publisher, and he lives around the corner from me, he asked me to do it, it was great because the big thing for him was that I just didn’t do the chorus. He wanted me to do a proper verse,” Pyke explains, before opening up on another goal he’s been eyeing.
“Groovin The Moo, I would love to play, it would be a great way of getting out in front of regional Australia,” he says. The 36-year-old has appeared at close to every major festival you can name, but says the pleasure of appearing at Australia’s most beloved regional event has eluded him.
When it comes to other plans for the future, Pyke is more tight-lipped, saying that most of them are still in their nascent stages, though he does mention a rather grand collaboration. “I really want to do an orchestral album, that is something I’ve been working hard at,” he says.
When asked about what one can expect from the setlist at his current shows. Pyke says The Lone Wolf tour will give fans a taste of his entire catalogue. “It’s definitely a mix of all my songs, I wanted to tell the story of my whole career.” A lofty ambition, but one he’s more than happy to work towards.
