Music Feeds Faves – 18/09/15

Each week the Music Feeds team hunt down their favourite new tunes, bundle them up in some, often highly legible words and bring them to you. It’s Music Feeds Faves.

Talisco – Eventually (Tame Impala cover)

I hate the French. I swear every single person born in that country slides out of the womb with a thorough, concise understanding and expertise in electronic infused music, and I for one, am sick of it. Their monopoly on delicious synth-injected tunes must end!

Take for example Talisco, who have followed up their tasty AF summer bop Your Wish, with a cover of our Tame Impala’s Eventually. Although propped up by a delicate piano melody replacing Kev’s crunchy guitar work, Talisco’s version buzzes and hums with an overflow of whirling and disparate electronic sounds.

GOD DAMMIT FRANCE, AREN’T YOU HAPPY WITH SIMPLY YOUR OWN AMAZING MUSIC. Ugh, whatever, it’s fine I guess. / Mitch Feltscheer, Creative Content Director

Vanity Riots – Hail Mary

Sydney act Vanity Riots’ newest metal hymn Hail Mary will have you worshipping at the altar of heavenly metal. Demonic double-kick and hypnotic guitar leads pound against the hell-deep riffery and divine, soaring highs of singer Monica Strut’s charismatic vocals. Feeling the need to absolve your soul of sin? 10 listens to Hail Mary should do the trick.

ZHU x AlunaGeorge – Automatic

Summer hasn’t technically arrived on our side of the earth yet, but with the launch of ZHU’s latest track it might as well have, because this thing is brimming with sweet rays of audible sunshine. Teaming up with the sublime AlunaGeorge, the track is likely part of the producer’s ‘Genesis Series’ project, which will feature a bunch of collabs with the likes of Skrillex, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Gallant and even Daniel Johns, and may or may not act as ZHU’s debut album, which can’t arrive soon enough.

Here the illusive producer works his magic with Aluna Francis and George Rei’s slinky vocals, cultivating what is sure to be your go-to-summer-bliss-out-jam. There’s even a sweet, totally left-field sax solo ffs. If you need me, I’ll be poolside. / Nastassia Baroni, Editor

Summer Flake – The Sun Won’t Shine

With the encroaching seasonal warmth and the promise of sun-laden summer afternoons just around the corner, my mind is already 80% not at work and instead envisioning myself lazily drifting back and forth in a hammock somewhere, a shirtless Zac Efron walking steadily towards me, the sparkling rays of light from the ocean glinting of his tanned, rock-like pectoral muscles, two fruit-filled cocktails (both for me) in his hands.

As I’m playing ‘Anywhere But Here’ in my mind for the X time today, I’ve thankfully got the new track from Radelaidian Summer Flake to assist me. Beginning with ultimate chill guitar licks which would suit the shit out of my hammock sway-time, the track builds steadily in intensity as Mr Efron-Feltscheer gets closer and closer before culminating in a deliciously frenetic cacophony of noise to accompany… well. You can figure out how my daydream ends yourself, I’m sure. (….it’s anal. Anal with Zac Efron) / Mitch Feltscheer

Noire – Pilgrims

Today is the day Sydney three-piece Noire drop their debut EP, Baby Blue, complete with a dreamy opening number called Pilgrims which has finally been released after spending some time floating around the internet.

Drawing inspiration from the likes of Beat poet Allen Ginsberg, legendary director Francis Ford Coppola and French duo Air, Noire make very, very airy (and kinda filmic) indie-pop. Pilgrims is the standout track on the Baby Blue EP, but the rest of the songs on the release are worth checking out too.

Porsches – Karate

It’s hard to believe that Sydney production duo Porches have only released one single so far, such is the ubiquity of their track Horses in Australia over the past couple of months. I mean, that lowkey banger is everywhere.

Second single Karate has dropped this week and takes their sex-laden electronica to a darker place. We’re in the same back-alley nightclub at 2am as last time, but this room is dimmer, the shadowy shapes of limbs and bodies sliding against each other barely able to be made out amongst the smoke and beats. “I just want to know if you’re leaving with me tonight,” Porsches confidently croon. I know I am. / Mitch Feltscheer

Yeo – Icarus

Quiet Achiever is not only the title of Yeo’s last single but it’s also the premise of his entire career. He’s been kicking around for a while now and it seems firing off his collaboration with Hermitude he’s finally getting the attention he deserves. Icarus is his best yet. It’s a really subtly funky track that sounds like the kind of thing Pharrell would make if he had his heyday in the ’80s. You don’t really see just how effective that chorus is until you’ve spun the song a few times. It’s got a swoon-worthy melody that ever so slowly digs under your skin.

Yeo’s really set himself up for a cracker of an album now. There’s really nobody in Australian music right now digging through ’80s nostalgia quite as effectively as this dude and funnily enough going back to the past actually makes Yeo sound really refreshing amongst a lot of electronic stuff that is starting to sound the same. / Sam Murphy, Staff Writer
