With their Australian tour dates fast approaching, Music Feeds sat down with Pig Destroyer’s ‘pan flautist’ Blake Harrison to chat brutality, Bjork and the band’s well know problem with pork.
Why Pig Destroyer? What’s the beef with swine?
The beef with swine huh? That made me laugh. Pig is a derogatory word for a police man here, so the name really means “Cop Killer”
What do you think about the new Rihanna album?
It’s better than her last record… FOR SURE
You’ve mentioned Mathew Barney as an influence, how specifically?
Art and film does influence the band of course, but I think that it does most people… Matthew’s work is great, and we like it a lot. It’s pretty visceral stuff don’t you think?
Does that mean you have a soft spot (or hard) for Bjork?
She’s a good looking woman, and a great artist, what’s not to like…
Who do you think would win in a fight Pig Destroyer or Anal Cunt?
Well, Scott was in AC for a bit, so I doubt we’d ever fight with them…
Songs like Jennifer from Prowler seem to give the band a rare opportunity to have the lyrics understood, is that the idea or is it a mood thing?
I think of it more of a mood thing, it definitely paints a picture in your head
What do you think the key is for heavier bands like you to find success and a following?
Just play what you want and keep it brutal…
Are there any new projects in the pipeline?
Absolutely, we’re doing a split with Coffins from Japan, and some other things that I’m not sure I can actually talk about here…
