Sydney’s Bad Pony are getting their strut on, bursting out of the gate this week with a rollicking new single, premiering today right here on Music Feeds.
Aptly titled ‘Villian’, the track is chock full of punchy, yet sinister, guitar riffs and raucous percussion all providing a colourful foundation for frontman Jarred Young’s soulful and glam-tinged vocals.
“The song is an existentialist walk down Grey St in St Kilda,” explains Young. “It’s a street renowned for nightwalkers, homelessness and drugs. I used to go through there at 530 in the morning every day to get to work and encountered people with some pretty serious drug and mental health problems. The song is about those people who I (wrongly) villainized. I was afraid and felt super disconnected from them. The only thing that connected us was inevitable death (chorus). By the end of the song, I’ve basically condemned them and their life choices and become the heartless villain myself.
“So it’s pretty dark but I feel like there’s a little bit of upbeat carefree-ness in the “hey fuck it all, we’re all going to die anyway.”
