Sydney dream indie pop outfit E For Echo are proving to be somewhat of a force majeure on the local scene. Hot off the heels of their lauded pre-launch show at OAF, they’re back with another offering of blissed-out indie pop. An ode to staying true to what you love, the aptly titled ‘Stay’ is premiering today via Music Feeds.
‘Stay’ is a demanding, yet delicate narrative draped atop a lush, summery song bed. Keys and synth gallop in and out of the soundscape resulting in almost a zen-like track, peaceful, gentle but not for a moment dull. The track was recorded at Free Energy Device Studios in Sydney, with production from Ross James (Vera Blue, Thelma Plum, Daniel Johns, Chet Faker), whose pop sensibilities no doubt gave E for Echo’s spirit wings to soar with ‘Stay’.
“We’ve never written music to try to fit in, and our sound has never been particularly straight-forward genre-wise,” say frontwomen Jenna and Zana. “Stay is about the difficulties of that, but also about accepting it. At the risk of sounding like wankers, creativity shouldn’t have those kinds of restraints, and we’ve never been tied up with trends. But most importantly, the piano riff reminds us of ’90s trance crossed with a Rocky montage.”
The track also heralds news of the group’s forthcoming debut EP, which has been tagged for a Friday, 1st June release. The EP is set to contain earlier single ‘Let Your Hair Down’.
Bliss out to ‘Stay’ right now.
