Melbourne punk rock crew Catholic Guilt have just unleashed an endearingly personal video for their musical love letter to their home city of Melbourne, ‘Song Of The Renter’.
Premiering exclusively via Music Feeds below, the Luke Seymoup-produced clip was shot on a beer budget with a single-camera, and shows off the city of Melbourne in all of its glory from the perspective of an inner-suburban renter.
The vid sees the Catholic Guilt boys take us on a tour of their own respective neighbourhoods, showcasing the sights and sounds (and coffee) that inspired the song’s creation.
Vocalist Brenton Harris explains: “We wanted the video to really bring that sense of empowerment and joyful rebellion present in the track to life. Being a lifelong renter can absolutely suck, but instead of dwelling on it, we’re embracing it, turning our attention instead to making the most of every moment we are fortunate enough to live in this beautiful, energetic and artistic city, surrounded by our friends, family and familiar strangers.
“So we thought, what better way to showcase that vibe than to embed you in our respective lives and literally show you our reality, and how we’re making the most of it”.
Apparently the boisterous backyard rager that forms the clip’s climax was also enough to earn the boys a noise complaint.
“But that was about as perfect of a representation of renter life as we could think of, so it felt like a natural way for the night to end!” Brenton adds.
To celebrate the release, Catholic Guilt will be playing a show in Frankston this Saturday, 15th February.
