After hundreds of pressers, news reels, announcements and tweets, it’s clear that this September not only marks the start of spring, but the start of a musical blessing. September will see some of the world’s favourite musicians release their eagerly anticipated albums, ranging from the likes of Green Day to Kanye West’s collaborative work G.O.O.D. Music. In aid of this, Music Feeds has taken the liberty of making your budget allocations easier, setting out the albums that we’re excited about this month. Regardless of that, we suggest you purchase or stream every single one of these albums, purely because they will be that amazing. Without further ado, the top albums set for release in September:
Animal Collective – Centipede Hz
Animal Collective have escaped the hipster world to bring you the wonderful electronic sounds of their minds. Of course, Animal Collective is not for everyone, but they definitely should be. Having been announced for the 2013 Big Day Out lineup, and been the rage of Pitchfork Media for nearly 7 years now, they must be good? Right? Until then, go listen to Feels.
Two Door Cinema Club – Beacon
Two Door Cinema Club’s first album Tourist History saw them fly up the festival bill, headlining smaller stages across the world. Now that Barack Obama has hooked on to the Irish trio, their sophomore album Beacon is sure to make waves throughout the musical community. And come on, if Barack likes them enough to buy out one of their concerts, they must be good! Beacon will be made available to the US President and you come September 4th.
Billy Talent – Dead Silence
Canadian melodic punk rock band Billy Talent will release their fifth studio album come September 7th. After nearly 10 years together, the album will see a combination of both their experience and nostalgic punk style. Having recently rocked the socks off Australian audiences, the boys will return in aid of the 2013 Soundwave Festival, headlined by Metallica. The lead single of Dead Silence, Viking Death March sees an anthem-like approach that will not only sound amazing come Soundwave, but amazing in your ears. Music Feeds could not be more excited about this album.
The Presets- Pacifica
The Presets represent the forefront of Australian electronic music, and for good reason. Their 2008 album Apocalypso saw the band break into the mainstream market, maintaining their grungy electronic-house sound. Since then, Kim and Julian have seen a whirlwind of success, with popularity growing dramatically in the USA. 2012 sees the duo return home, to release their third album Pacifica. Having already released Kids in Trouble and Ghosts, it’s clear that the Modular darlings will once again produce musical masterpieces ranging from club bangers to festival anthems. The release of Pacifica is one that we’ve been awaiting for some time now.
Gallows – Gallows
Representing British hardcore punk, Gallows are set to release their self-titled album this September. Gallows will be the group’s third studio effort, following on from Orchestra of Wolves and Grey Britain. This album will be the first full-length studio album since the lineup change saw vocalist Wade MacNeil replace original frontman Frank Carter in August 2011. Gallows is set for release on 10th September.
Bob Dylan – Tempest
Bob Dylan’s impact on music, both historically and contextually is unquestionable. His song Like A Rolling Stone was named by Rolling Stone Magazine as the greatest song of all time. The introduction snare is one of the most iconic entrances to a song the world has ever seen. Obviously Dylan has come a long way since the release of Highway 61 Revisited, and we won’t be seeing a song as influential as Desolation Row for some time. However, for the release of Tempest, Dylan has taken a bluesy approach, revisiting the likes of ragtime music. We’re not saying that it’ll be album of the year, but what’s better than sitting on the porch listening to a bit of blues eh?

A$AP Rocky – LongLiveA$AP
Since about 2010, the world was introduced to the concept of ‘viral rappers’. We had Die Antwoord, then we had Odd Future led by the notorious Tyler, The Creator. Now, the world has the A$AP Crew, led by none other than A$AP Rocky. His Harlem rhymes speak the truth to many, and he has quickly become a favourite amongst the Tumblr tweens and hip hop fans. Regardless of who you are, chances are you’ll dig the forthcoming A$AP album. His mixtape LiveLoveA$AP made him a Pitchfork favourite, and then came the hipsters. The next installation of the A$AP movement comes 11th September.
As I Lay Dying – Awakened
In case you haven’t noticed, Music Feeds love a good mosh. And what better way to do that than to the new As I Lay Dying record, set for release this September. The metalcore band are set to produce their followup to 2011’s record Decas. Awakened, produced by Bill Stevenson, has already started to cause a stir, with fans who attended the Mayhem Festival raving about the live versions of tracks. The remainder of fans can only wait until they receive their fix of metal, but we’re sure that it’ll be worth it. Awakened drops 25th September.

The Rubens – The Rubens
September’s music releases wouldn’t be complete without some homegrown music: easily one of the year’s most-anticipated local releases is The Rubens self-titled debut album. With the likes of David Kahne on board, producer of The Strokes, Paul McCartney and many more, the rural New South Wales band have been growing in popularity, and it doesn’t seem like stopping anytime soon. Having only been a band for a little over a year, The Rubens are Australia’s next success story, already gaining international attention. Their indie-blues rock sound is something that the local music scene has been lacking; however, with the impending release of their album (due out 14th September) it looks like the four boys have it covered.
The XX – Coexist
At one point they were the most hyped band in the world. Their infectious indie-pop sound went viral, and their album was awarded the famous Mercury Prize. Not only did it strike multiple chords with the world wide music media and fans, it allowed the likes of WaitWhat to carve what has been described as “the greatest mixtape ever created” creating a hybrid between The XX and Notorious B.I.G. Unfortunately the album was leaked some days ago, yet the reviews that emerged from these leaks have been nothing but positive, subsequently building the hype around the album. Coexist will invade your ears on 11th September
The Killers – Battle Born
Since producing indie anthems such as Mr Brightside, Somebody Told Me and When You Were Young, The Killers have made their way to the top of indie music, after the questionable release of Day & Age, which saw the group move into a more electric-pop sound and resulted in a loss of fans. However, thankfully the group will return to their original sound, which saw the release of Hot Fuss. Drummer Ronnie Vannucci told NME that the album would have “more guitars in it”. Thankfully, this return to their sound may see the release of yet another quintessential indie-anthem. Battle Born is set for release on 18th September
Deadmau5 – Album Title Goes Here
Deadmau5 has had a crazy year. Having refurbished his own studio and brought a few of the industry’s biggest egos back down to earth, Joel, the man behind the mouse, has announced his 2012 album. Equipped with an ever-creative title, the album is equipped with 13 tracks of EDM goodness, including The Veldt and Professional Griefers. Album Title Goes Here will grace your ears on the 24th September.
Lupe Fiasco – Food & Liqour II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1
Lupe Fiasco’s unique lyrical style, accompanied by his exquisite choice in beats, have resulted in his rise to fame. Becoming one of the most respected rappers worldwide due to his refusal to ‘sell out’, as many rappers have, Lupe furthers his reputation within the single Bitch Bad. The lead track from the album acts as a call for all role models to account for their actions, and the impact that they have on children. Additionally, he addresses multiple racial issues that are sewn across America. Respect Lupe. Food & Liqour II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1 drops on 25th September.
The Vaccines – Come of Age
The Vaccines truly are the UK’s best musical export of last year. Their debut album What Did You Expect From The Vaccines? peaked at 4th on the British album charts and saw instant sold-out shows across the country. Having toured as part of the 2012 Big Day Out festival, The Vaccines will return to Australia over the new year to grace us with new material. The single No Hope has since become a triple j favourite; Come of Age is due out 3rd September.
No Doubt – Push & Shove
September 2012 will see one of the biggest bands from the late 90s to early 2000s return from independent projects to release their new record. No Doubt, who rose to fame through their singles Don’t Speak and It’s My Life, will release their sixth album, and first since the 2001 release of Rock Steady. The first single of the album, Settle Down sees a slight change in the band’s sound; however, it still retains the fundamentals that resulted in their success. Feeds are ready to get nostalgic with this release. Push & Shove is set for release on 25th September
Patrick Wolf – Sundark and Riverlight
English singer-songwriter Patrick Wolf conveys an individualistic folktronica/Baroque pop sound. However, after the release of his single The City, which saw his rise in popularity, Wolf’s new project see’s him take an acoustic approach to recording. Speaking to triple j’s The Doctor, Wolf explained that “I’m going back to the studio and recording my jubilee record… The album will be totally, totally, totally stripped down. It’s time for me to be retrospective about the last ten years before I move onto the next ten. I’m 28 and I think it’s quite fun to sing the songs you wrote as a teenager.” To get a taste of what this acoustic album will sound like, listen below for the first single, Overture. Sundark and Riverlight will be released on 25th September.
Mumford & Sons – Babel
Dubbed a ‘doom folk’ album by the London group, Mumford & Son’s sophomore album has been eagerly anticipated since the release of Sigh No More. The single I Will Wait has become an anthem at festivals across the world. Mumford will grace our shores in the middle of October, allowing Australian fans to hear the album live first after its release. Babel is released on 24th September; however, if you cannot wait until then, Prettymuchamazing.com have you covered, with 5 songs available online. Seriously, just listen to I Will Wait below; it is honestly the most uplifting song I’ve heard all year.

Illy – Bring It Back
Illy has been a key runner in the Australian hip hop scene since the release of his 2010 album The Chase. Since then, Illy has taken a step down from the limelight, completing University and discovering himself. Illy is back with an album that is set to challenge 360’s hold on the hip hop throne. Recently finishing up a series with beat-maker M Phazes titled Friday Flips, it’s clear that Illy hasn’t lost his touch, and that it’s matured in the best possible way. Feeds are absolutely psyched about this release, which will see the new, matured Illy drop his album very soon.
Green Day – ¡Uno!
Since the release of their seminal punk album American Idiot, Green Day have been a household name. From the alleyways of America they rose to play both stadiums and headline slots at festivals. Having become somewhat reclusive after the release of their 2009 album 21st Century Breakdown, the band are readying themselves for the three-pronged release of their albums ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré!, to be released over the next few months. The first instalment of this, ¡Uno, hits shelves on 25th September, followed by releases in November and January. The first single from ¡Uno!, Oh Love sees the band return to their American Sound, reminiscent of tracks such as Homecoming. In an interview, Billie Joel Armstrong described the thought process of the albums, stating, “the songs just kept coming. I’d go, maybe a double album? No, that’s too much nowadays. Then more songs kept coming. And one day, I sprung it on the others: ‘Instead of Van Halen I, II and III, what if it’s Green Day I, II and III and we all have our faces on each cover?'”
G.O.O.D. Music – Cruel Summer
Kanye West doesn’t do things by halves. After his critically acclaimed My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Watch The Throne, the king of hip hop is back, but this time he brought friends. Teaming up with Kid Cudi, Big Sean, Pusha T, 2 Chains and reports emerging about Mos Def and stacks of others, Cruel Summer is sure to be the collaborative work of the year. The track Mercy, sees Kanye take a minimal role, allowing the likes of 2 Chins and Pusha T to take the limelight. Specific details are yet to be announced for Cruel Summer; however, there is a reason that it was left until last on the list. The G.O.O.D. Summer is easily the most-anticipated album of September.
