American metalcore icons The Devil Wears Prada are gearing up to make their return to Australia this August supporting homegrown heroes Alpha Wolf on their biggest national tour to date. The Ohio five-piece have also just amped up the excitement by gifting fans with a new slice of heavy goodness dubbed ‘Ritual’, a single co-produced by the iconic Tyler Smyth (I Prevail, Falling in Reverse) and mixed by the equally iconic Zakk Cervini (Bring Me The Horizon, Blink 182), which heralds a new era for the band while pushing the boundaries of their signature sound.
In honour of the new tune (which you can spin below) and their long-awaited return to our shores, Music Feeds sat down with TDWP frontman Jeremy DePoyster to get the lowdown on some of the band’s most time-honoured tour ~rituals~. Give them a gander down below.
The Devil Wears Prada – ‘Ritual’
1. BRUNCH CREW
We have a thing that is so stupid on the road, but we do it, it’s called the SBC, which is just the Scallywag Brunch Crew. We normally try to go get brunch every day together, so it’s kind of cute. We’ll just go find a brunch spot and we’re all friends outside of just playing together, so that part’s pretty fun.
2. SECRET BUSINESS
We have this cultic kind of psycho ritual thing that we do before every show together and everyone has a little bit that they do with the other people in the band. So there’s all these little one-on-one things. It’s a grounding thing, but if I told you – it’d be super embarrassing to say all the components of it! They don’t really make any sense, but they’re crazy. So we always do that.
3. GROUP CHAT
It’s not really a ritual, but we have a pretty salacious group chat that stays going all the time. I think that’s pretty common, but we usually just talk shit on everybody around us most of the time in the group chat. So that’s kind of a communal thing. If we’re on an airplane, we’re just roasting everyone on the airplane to each other, so that’s kind of fun.
4. COCKTAILS
Pretty much every show day on our last tour, me and a couple of the other guys were going and getting an Aperol Spritz together. And it happened so frequently that people I know in my life and other bands and stuff have started tagging us whenever they get an Aperol Spritz. So that kind of just became a thing, I don’t know why! The Landmvrks guys will text me every day whenever they’re having an Aperol Spritz, it’s pretty funny. Silverstein sent us a photo today of it too, it’s just a fun communal thing.
5. NIC CAGE
We don’t really do it anymore, but we used to have this shrine of Nicholas Cage movies on our bus. We had 40 of them on DVDs, we would just get ’em at gas stations, and then we would tape them up in the bus as a shrine whenever we moved into a new bus. Maybe we should bring that back? We were just obsessed with him. He is kind of goofy, but then we kind of fell in love with him and couldn’t get away from him. I think as a group we’ve seen almost all of his movies together. It’s crazy. When we were making our last record, we probably rented eight movies he had put out that year. He makes a lot of movies, so we rented ’em and we’ll watch ’em every night. It was cool.
