Thee Oh Sees Return To Australia

If she gets a breather from all their shows around the country, you can expect to see Brigid Dawson and her Thee Oh Sees bandmates soaking up the rays on a beach near you.

The keyboarder/vocalist said the band have stayed in a popular surf shack in Lorne, Victoria on their last few visits to Australia.

“It’s amazing, we go there every time we come down, cook up a big meal and just chill,” she said. “Part of my growing up was in Santa Cruz, so I really love beaches. I’ve got lots of great memories of being in Australia – just the lovely people we met and walking home and seeing the possums out in the parks at night.”

The San Francisco indie group are coming down to our shores later this month to play the Sugar Mountain Festival – along with several club shows in various states.

They’ll be touring their new record Carrying Crawler/The Dream – which Dawson believes is a whole different beast compared to the group’s somewhat toned-down previous work.

“John (Dwyer, frontman) did a lot of the stuff on our last record (Castelmania) so in many ways it was quiet and more layered,” she said. “Whereas this one is a full-band record and it’s different in that it’s much louder and intense; we’ve got double drummers and it’s more melodic as well.”

It’s the recent addition of their second drummer that makes Dawson predict punters can expect a loud and intense show from the band.

“I love when I see bands with double drummers – when they do it well it’s a great experience, especially live,” she said.

“We’re still building up to the point of making it amazing, but they can expect it to be loud and super sweaty because it’s summer, so it’s gonna be hot there. Hopefully people will dance and have a good time.”
