Reverse Polarities Album Launch With: Thundamentals, Chaos Maths, Rapaport, Jack Prest – The Annandale Hotel 13th June 2008

If this was my Album launch, I’d be fucking stoked.  The boys couldn’t have asked for anything better, and they deserved every bit of it.

Even before I got in I could tell it was packed out.  The place was overflowing.  These boys are backed by nothing but themselves, and they’ve practically sold out the Annandale.  How about that?

I was disappointed I missed Chaos Maths set – they came on stage with everyone later and it looks like they’ve got a great vibe.  But Rappaport was on when I arrived, holding the fort with typical lyrical mastery.  This guy’s great.    Larry took the chance to warm up himself on a couple tracks too.

Thundamentals  then took over the reins, and did a damn good job of it.  These guys have got some talent.  Not too much out of the ordinary, but some clever rhyming, and an admirable energy.

The Tongue (and another emcee who’s name escapes me)  psyched everyone up a bit more with a quick impromptu freestyle set, rounded off by working the now-heaving crowd into a chant of “R P!  R P!  R P!”, and from then on it was all over.  They stormed the stage, took over the place, and never let go.  It was a pleasure to be a part of.  Their energy was unbounded, their deliveries were spot on, their suits were impeccable, the beats were faultless, the message was clear.  (Their baggies were empty.)  These boys are damn talented, and a shit load of fun.

And it’s captured perfectly on the Album.  (I spoke to them a bit more about what was involved with putting it together… interview)  It was a bargain $5 at the gig, but whatever it’s worth now go get yourself one. Damn fine effort.
