When I first stumbled across Electric Guest earlier this year, it was love at first listen. Their contagiously poppy tunes have had me grooving in my bedroom for the last five months, and to finally break those moves out in the open takes a place as one of my Splendour highlights.
Infiltrating the mix-up tent with their soul-infused pop, frontman Asa Taccone beamed with energy as he danced up a storm, and the crowd lapped it up. For a man with such a small stature, Taccone has one huge voice. Easily slipping into those high registers, he effortlessly brought debut album, Mondo, to life, delighting the enthused audience with hits such as Amber, Jenny, Awake, and a funked-up version of eight-and-a-half minute wonder, Troubleman.
The crowd favourite came in the form of This Head I Hold; the bouncy keyboard lines and rolling drums had the entire tent dancing away. Their set ended with the synth-heavy, Holes that left the punters well satisfied. It was an amazing way to kick off the last day of Splendour!
