In an unexpected turn, The 1975 have covered Justin Bieber‘s Sorry and One Direction‘s What Makes You Beautiful with a massive symphony orchestra.
The British pop/rock band performed a one-off set with the BBC Philharmonic symphony orchestra for Radio 1 and it was pretty damn special.
Along with dropping a handful of their classics, the band added their own twist to the Biebs and One Direction, turning the tracks into sweeping, triumphant masterpieces.
Now that Niall Horan and Zayn Malik have launched solo careers, with Harry Styles not far off, One Direction are basically finished for good. With that in mind, it’s good to hear The 1975 keeping the flame alive with a rather stirring version of the boy band’s debut single.
Speaking to BBC about performing with the orchestra, frontman Matt Healy was as emotional as us.
“I was crying today, at times,” he said (via NME).
“The orchestra really makes the up moments more celebratory and the down moments more introspective and melancholy. It’s the first time I’ve wanted to do another run through of a soundcheck. It was incredible.”
It’s a shame it was a one-off performance because the whole thing is incredible.
