FBi’s SMAC awards are in full swing tonight with industry people and artists all gathering around, leaning in closely, attentively listening to the winners of 2012’s Sydney Music Art & Culture awards.
The SMAC awards would have to be one of the most diverse ceremonies in award season. Rather than focusing on what’s hot, SMAC puts strong emphasis on people and events that have heavily influenced, or greatly contributed to, Sydney’s creative culture.
Theatre, music, visual art, film and even food are recognised at the awards – with Gelato Messina taking out the latter, which couldn’t be more deserved. Other key awards on the night include Best Live Music Act, which was appropriately handed to Hermitude, Best Music Event, going to Outside In Festival and Best Song, which was snapped up by the great Flume.
