State Of Origin just upped the ante for this year’s big three-leg grudge match by adding a trio of Aussie rock legends as pre-game entertainment.
Birds Of Tokyo will fire up the crowds at the premiere in Brisbane, Sydney-siders will get lubed up by alt-rock ledgehammers Grinspoon, while Powderfinger alumnus Bernard Fanning will do the honours for the big final at Suncorp Stadium in July.
“It will be great to see some exceptional Australian talent also performing at all three games this year,” NRL chief commercial officer Andrew Abdo says in a statement.
The NRL is spruiking it as a big win for Aussie music, shooting an indirect middle finger in the direction of the AFL who are notorious for booking international artists for their big games.
