5 Seconds of Summer have released a full-band acoustic version of their recent single, ‘Complete Mess’. ‘Complete Mess’ arrived in early March and is the band’s first single of 2022. It follows ‘2011’, which landed in December 2021.
‘Complete Mess’ was written by 5 Seconds of Summer’s Ashton Irwin, Luke Hemmings, Callum Hood and Michael Clifford. Clifford also produced the track.
The Sydney band’s most recent LP, Calm, will celebrate its second birthday this Sunday, 27th March. Calm, 5SOS’s fourth album overall, topped the Australian charts on its release in 2020, while also debuting at number one in the UK and number two in the USA.
Calm was 5SOS’s fourth consecutive ARIA #1 album, a streak that began with the band’s self-titled LP in 2014 and continued with Sounds Good Feels Good (2017) and Youngblood (2018).
The acoustic version of ‘Complete Mess’ precedes the band’s Take My Hand world tour, which commences in Ireland next week. 5 Seconds of Summer will return for a run of Australian tour dates this November/December, including two nights at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt (Friday, 9th and Saturday, 10th December). In the two years since Calm, Irwin and Hemmings released their debut solo albums. Irwin’s Superbloom came out in October 2020; Hemmings’ When Facing the Things We Turn Away From came out in August 2021.
