More than 20 years after its cinematic release, 50 Cent is working on a television adaptation of Eminem‘s 8 Mile. The New York rapper – real name Curtis Jackson – has recently added TV producer to his job title, executive producing the 2021 crime drama BMF and producing and starring in the long-running crime drama Power from 2014–2020.
In a recent appearance on Big Boy TV, 50 said he was working on the project with Eminem himself. “I’m gonna bring his 8 Mile to television. We’re in motion,” 50 said. The film is loosely based on Eminem aka Marshall Mathers’ journey as a young battle rapper in Detroit attempting to launch a career in hip hop.

“It’s gonna be big. I ain’t got no duds. I’m battin’ a hundred, I’m battin’ a hundred,” 50 added. He said that the series “should be there for [Eminem’s] legacy because it’s important to me that [people] understand it.” According to 50, the series will expand on the film with a “backstory” that delves into the protagonist’s earlier years.
Directed by Curtis Hanson, 8 Mile was released in cinemas in 2002. Eminem starred as Jimmy, an aspiring rapper named B-Rabbit. The cast also featured Kim Basigner, Mekhi Phifer and the late Brittany Murphy.
Eminem wrote his hit single ‘Lose Yourself’ for the film, which won an Oscar for Best Original Song. At the 2020 Academy Awards, Eminem made a surprise appearance to perform the song.
