65daysofstatic Announce Australian Tour Supports

UK electronic-rock legends 65daysofstatic have announced the supports for their first Australian headline shows in January 2013.

Sydney ambient/melodic post-rockers sleepmakeswaves will join the tour for all shows, following a massive 2012 that has seen them tour the US, Europe and Australia.

They will be joined by electronic trio Bon Chat Bon Rat at The Hi Fi in Sydney; experimental electronic soloist Elroy 4.0, and instrumental group Hazards of Swimming Naked at The Hi Fi in Brisbane; ethereal solo act The Townhouses at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne; and piano-driven progressive rock quartet Tangled Thoughts of Leaving in Perth at The Bakery.

We took a moment to shine a spotlight on the local acts joining the UK legends on their first ever Australian tour:

sleepmakeswaves have had a breakout year in 2012. Their recent ARIA nomination for debut album …and so we destroyed everything sums up a year that has been spent touring – playing SXSW and touring the US; co-headlining Belgium’s Dunk Festival and a 15-date European tour; 2 headline tours of Australia and supports for Boris, Tortoise, Russian Circles as well as opening for Karnivool on their sold-out Australian tour in July. The band’s singles (hello) cloud mountain, in limbs and joints and now we rise and we are everywhere have seen national and international airplay, spending 7 weeks on the CMJ Top 200 radio chart in the US and receiving support from the BBC, triple j, FBi, 4zzz, RTR, Edge, RRR, PBS and more. On stage, they are a powerful and dynamic force.

Sydney’s Bon Chat Bon Rat formed in 2009 and were quickly signed to boutique tastemaker label Future Classic. As well as appearing at Parklife and Musica festivals, the group have proven themselves supporting the likes of Toro Y Moi and Apparat. Their recent singles Blackbird and Cerberus encompass elements of IDM, dubstep and experimental electronic music, making them a perfect opener for 65dos.

Brisbane producer Elroy 4.0 (aka Ross Bird) draws his influences from chilled electronica to heavy dark beats and UK bass. Releasing tracks alongside Om Unit, Slugabed and Lunica on Jus Like Music Records and an EP on homegrown label Ender, Elroy has slowly garnered dedicated critical acclaim for his work. If you’re a fan of acts like Fishing, Oliver Tank, Guerre, Collarbones or Elizabeth Rose, you’ll probably dig this guy.

Bris vegas instrumental rockers Hazards of Swimming Naked are local heroes with a loyal following for their ambient compositions that range from chilled grooves to dark pulsating riffs. Following 2010’s acclaimed record Our Lines Are Down, they have largely been dormant on the live scene whilst recording the follow-up. It will be great to see them back in action in January.

Melbourne’s Leigh Hannah casts a wide net of influences through his project The Townhouses. A self-described ‘kaleidoscope adventure of worldly sounds’, the music wistfully combines tropicalia, gamelan, African, and ambient soundscape to create an experimental collage of breezy summer reflection. The new album Diaspora is out next week through Yes Please Records and features collaborations with Italy’s Giorgio Tuma, Guerre, Wintercoats, Rainbow Chan, and Felix Weatherbourne. The Townhouses project has also had a busy year on the live front – embarking on an epic European tour including Torstrassen Festival in Berlin and performing with Dent May in Paris. On home soil, he has supported School of Seven Bells, Prince Rama, Seaworthy, Sunday Araw and more.

Perth instrumental rock heavyweights Tangled Thoughts of Leaving have long been developing a cult following for their unique instrumental sound – think The Necks on steroids. Beloved in their hometown, they have spent the last year breaking out to play intense East Coast shows since the release of 2011 debut Deaden the Fields. With a support resume that includes Mono, Boris, Karnivool, Russian Circles, Nadja, Dead Letter Circus, The Ocean and sleepmakeswaves, the band bring a well-honed and fiery presence to their piano-driven fusion of experimental rock and jazz.
