Tom DeLonge, still technically Blink-182’s guitarist, has just premiered the first song from his upcoming solo album To The Stars. The track, dubbed New World, is pretty far removed from what fans have come to expect from the singer’s work with Blink and Angels & Airwaves.
We daresay it has a bit of a croony, The Killers sort of vibe to it, which is a bit of a surprise, as To the Stars itself has been tipped to contain new Blink-182 demos, as well as a few other ‘odds and ends’ (presumably New World must be either an ‘odd’ or an ‘end’).
The disc also draws its name from the trans-media company that DeLonge has recently launched, which creates “multimedia franchised art”.
“As an artist I have been fascinated by many differing mediums. Music, books, graphic novels, films, concept art etc…” the singer posted on Facebook to coincide with the release of his first solo track. “… Art and stories that can go on forever while constantly being reimagined on different mediums.”
“We are doing a little bit of all those things at To The Stars,” he explains. “And we will be launching in April for the all world to see. My goal is to collaborate with some of the best artists around the world with all of us working together and doing it independently- As artists should be. I am looking to (hopefully) do my second feature film this summer. Because I like having myself some Strange Times with close friends— :)”
DeLonge has flagged the album’s release date as 21st April. He also recently split with Blink-182 and raised some eyebrows after making further claims about his contact with intergalactic space creatures.
