A New Zealand Mum Has Deadset Named Her Three Kids After Iconic Metal Bands

A New Zealand mum has taken her love for metal to a new level, and has opted for naming her three kids after three iconic metal bands: Metallica, Pantera, and Slayer.

NZ documentary filmmaker David Farrier shared the info via his paid-subscription newsletter, but has summarised it for those not subscribed via his Twitter account.

“Proud to report that a New Zealand mother has named her children Metallica, Pantera and Slayer. She told me “It’s not easy raising three of the heaviest bands,” he begins.

He then raises his suspicions towards the legitimacy of her kids names, noting that the kid named Metallica has the middle name “And Justice for All” after the band’s fourth album. But after doing some digging with the NZ Registrar-General, they confirm that there are no restrictions placed on naming someone after a band or an album. Farrier also notes that he has seen the kids’ birth certificates.

“There are no restrictions on naming babies after bands or albums, as long as the word used is not generally considered to be offensive or does not resemble an official rank or title,” the Registrar-General’s response reads.

In the thread, he doesn’t share the woman’s name, but opts to describe her as a “crossbow-wielding mother”, as shown in the image of her below.

Farrier also comments on the image, pointing out that “This mother is a big fan of crossbows, which are also truly metal, and she deserves our complete and utter respect for this (and for raising three kids).”
