News organisation The Associated Press has issued a correction for an article that mixed up murder suspect and subject of HBO documentary miniseries The Jinx Robert Durst with Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst.
The error was printed in the AP’s “California 10th NewsMinute” which was sent to users of the organisation’s state news wire on March 16th. While it was not issued to the public, it soon featured on a number of media websites, including that of journalist Jim Romenesko.
The AP report read:
“A Louisiana State Police trooper says millionaire Robert Durst has been booked on weapons charges in that state — on top of a first-degree murder charge lodged by Los Angeles authorities. Trooper Melissa Matey told the Associated Press that an arrest warrant was issued for the former Limp Bizkit frontman and he was rebooked in the Orleans Parish Jail on Monday under two new charges.”
71-year-old property heir Robert Durst, was arrested this week by Louisiana police and has been formally charged for the murder of Susan Berman in 2000. He is also a suspect in the murder of two other people and is the subject of the 2015 HBO series The Jinx. He is not, however, a member of Limp Bizkit.
Once their mistake was pointed out, the AP quickly issued a correction. “The Associated Press reported erroneously that Robert Durst is a member of a band,” read the correction issued by the AP, via Fairfax. “He is a real estate heir; Fred Durst is the former frontman of Limp Bizkit.”
The AP have yet to correct their classification of Fred Durst as the “former” frontman of the band, especially given that they are reportedly at work on their “really weird” seventh album.
UPDATE 28/03/15: Fred Durst has commented on the mix-up, posting an image to the Limp Bizkit Instagram page of him wearing a hoodie emblazoned with the message, “NOT ROBERT”. See it below.
