A Ninth Astroworld Death Has Been Confirmed

In tragic news, a ninth victim has passed away in hospital from injuries sustained from the Astroworld disaster.

Electronics engineering student 22-year-old Bharti Shahani died on Wednesday night, her family’s lawyer confirmed to the Associated Press, with the young woman mere months away from graduating and beginning the next chapter of her life.

“For the first time in her life, she just wanted to have fun, and that was taken from her,” said Namrata Shahani, Bharti’s sister, in a statement.

She said that her sister’s last words were “are you ok?”

The Shahani family has set up a GoFundMe to cover the cost of Bharti’s medical bills. As of Friday morning, over US$ 65,000 has been raised.

As the fallout from Astroworld continues, over 50 legal claims have been filed against rapper/festival founder Travis Scott, who was performing at the time of the tragedy, and promoters Live Nation.

One such claim comes from the family of a nine-year-old boy, who remains in a coma after being trampled in the crowd surge that left a further eight people dead.

Scott has since offered to cover the funeral expenses for all victims and has urged family members to contact him directly via email for support.

“Over the last week, Travis Scott and his team have been actively exploring routes of connection with each and every family affected by the tragedy through the appropriate liaisons,” said a statement from Scott’s team, released earlier this week.

“He is distraught by the situation and desperately wishes to share his condolences and provide aid to them as soon as possible, but wants to remain respectful of each family’s wishes on how they’d best like to be connected.”
