A Perfect Circle Will Make A New Album ‘When The Time Is Right”

A Perfect Circle may be invading our shores for Soundwave in February and March, but don’t expect too much new material in the set – nor a new album any time soon.

Antiquiet reports that guitarist Billy Howerdel has told Las Vegas Weekly that he’s currently focusing on his other project Ashes Divide, and a new APC record will only come on the radar once the band’s new lineup – including former Smashing Pumpkins’ guitarist James Iha – have settled themselves in a bit more.

“I’d love to (do a new A Perfect Circle record) — when the time is right,” he told Las Vegas Weekly. “It would be awesome. I’m trying to write songs with that in mind, but… right now, I’m focusing most of my energy on a new Ashes Divide record, which is underway with 11 songs. Still working on finishing vocals and writing lyrics, and hopefully [will] get that thing mixed in January or February.”

Having said that, Howerdel said it was possible that “one new song that we played last summer” might come into the setlist for the band’s one-off show in Vegas this weekend, along with another newie “if we get really frisky”.

He also admitted that there are a few songs in his reportiore sitting around that he hasn’t showcased to frontman Maynard James Keenan yet. When Las Vegas Weekly asked if Howerdel and the band had “a well of songs that you’re waiting to release”, he quipped: “kind of.”

“I mean, I haven’t even sprung them on Maynard yet. He may be like, “Let’s do something last minute,” but I kind of doubt it since we have three days of rehearsal left. But I’m one to bite off more than I can chew.”

Things have been a bit rocky in APC land lately – drummer Josh Freese quit the group back in October. It’s still uncertain who is replacing Freese for the band’s upcoming live shows.
