A new movie is in the works, based on the tragic and turbulent life of late Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver frontman, Scott Weiland.
And it sounds like it’s going to be pretty true to the grunge icon’s story.
The biopic will be based on 2011 New York Times best-selling memoir Not Dead & Not For Sale, after production house Dark Pictures acquired the book rights.
While the screenplay is being penned by Jennifer Erwin, Dark Pictures’ co-founder and a self-professed “die-hard” STP fan, who’s been given the blessing of the Weiland estate to adapt his story for the big screen.
The film has the working title of Paper Heart, and in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Erwin said it was “an honor to have the trust to tell Scott’s story and the ability to portray the lesser known sides of him – the loving and tender man he was, the high school athlete he was, the melancholy soul he was and the legendary frontman that he will always be”.
Producer Orian Williams added: “We want to make the most authentic film possible about this remarkable artist. Beyond Scott’s page-turning memoir, connecting with those closest to Scott is important to get the details right.”
If that wasn’t enough to get you excited, Dark Pictures have also confirmed the film will feature unreleased music from the late rock legend.
