Famed recording house Abbey Road Studios has announced a foray into the world of music education, and will open two Abbey Road Institutes in Sydney and Melbourne this September.
2015 is the inaugural year of The Abbey Road Institute, which will see its first iteration set up in the beloved North London studios which have played host to acts such as Pink Floyd, Kate Bush, Oasis, Radiohead, Sting and, of course, The Beatles.
The London Abbey Road Institute will have purpose-built classrooms and studio facilities, with every student also having access to a powerful computer workstation available before, during and after class.
According to The Guardian, aside from institutes in Sydney and Melbourne, Abbey Road is also expanding into Berlin and Munich later this year.
The Abbey Road Institute is designed for students aged 18 and up, and will offer a 12-month Advanced Diploma in Music Production and Sound Engineering.
In a statement, Abbey Road senior director of engineering Peter Cobbin has shared his excitement ahead of the first student intake.
“Abbey Road Institute benefits from the studios’ 80 years of audio expertise, distilling some of our knowledge into a curriculum of classroom learning and practical studio experience,” he said. “I’m delighted that the Institute will nurture and inspire a new generation of audio professionals.”
Details of the Abbey Road Institute’s Australian plans are expected in the next week or so, as websites for the Sydney and Melbourne institutes remain under construction. For more information, visit the Abbey Road Institute’s London website.
