Firefighters were called to Sydney’s Abercrombie Hotel last night after the pub was set ablaze in what police are describing as a “suspicious fire,” reports SMH. A NSW Police spokeswoman told SMH they would investigate the possibility that the fire was connected to yesterday’s bikie shootings.
The Hotel formerly hosted live music and the iconic indie night Purple Sneakers, before being closed down in 2010, only to reopen in 2011.
The pub was recently renovated by Sydney hotelier, Jamie Wirth, and reopened successfully as an American-style diner, as well as hosting club nights, including the popular ‘Totally Barry’ every Friday.
According to police, the pub was left with “significant damage”, which left the ground floor burnt out and smoke and water damage in the upper levels.
