In a move that may or may not ease the backlash they’ve copped after once again snubbing homegrown talent in their Grand Final festivities, the AFL is set to launch a footy finals festival featuring nothing but Aussie acts. Goal!
The code has teamed up with Foxtel to launch the Foxtel Footy Festival, which runs for four days in the lead-up to the Big Decider, with a launch party on Wednesday, September 30th featuring performances by Aussie rockers Kingswood, the energetic Pierce Brothers and DJ sets from quirky Melbourne pop-starlet Nussy.
Kicking off with the launch party and running til Saturday October 3rd at Yarra Park outside Gate 3 at the MCG, the Foxtel Footy Festival promises to celebrate everything Melbourne has to offer, from music, food, movies, and – der – footy.
Following three hours of Party MAX tunes on the big screen on Thursday October 1st, festivities will be capped off with a performance from Aussie rock supergroup ARC (The Antipodean Rock & Roll Collective), which features Kram from Spiderbait, Mark Wilson from Jet, Darren Middleton from Powderfinger and Davey Lane from You Am I.
Friday October 2nd at the Music Hub will then bear witness to a set from the fresh-from-supporting-Calvin-Harris-in-Vegas DJ Generik, ahead of the AFL Grand Final on Saturday October 3rd which of course includes performances by all of your mums favourite international acts: Bryan Adams, Chris Isaak and Ellie Goulding.
The Foxtel Footy Festival is free of charge and also features a Toyota AFL Megastore, Women’s Style Lounge and Fox Footy Stage. For the full rundown of what’s on offer.
