Few contemporary artists hold as much power and influence as Adele. You only have to look to the headlines in the weeks leading up to, and since the release of her latest record 30.
Even in Australia this week, one of the biggest music news stories was in relation to her walking out of an interview with an Australian journalist for failing to even listen to her album before he interviewed her (I mean fair enough tho, that’s like the bare minimum in terms of research you should do when you’ve got a whopping 20-30 minutes with one of the biggest stars in the world).
This week, she’s convinced one of the biggest brands in music to make a small, yet influential change to their platform that will effectively alter the way a lot of us will listen to albums, like hers, on the platform.
She has single-handedly convinced the higher ups at Spotify to get rid of the auto-shuffle feature when listening to albums.
Stereogum pointed out that prior to this change, the application’s default setting when clicking play on an album, was to automatically put it on shuffle mode.
“This was the only request I had in our ever changing industry,” Adele said in response to a social media post from Pop Crave. “We don’t create albums with so much care and thought into our tracklisting for no reason. Our art tells a story and our stories should be listened to as we intended. Thank you Spotify for listening.”
