As the Courier Mail reports, after arriving on the Gold Coast at 1:20pm on Sunday, 27th July, the English pop star tweeted a photo of herself apparently being handcuffed by police at Coolangatta Airport, before making the trip to Splendour’s Yelgun festival site.
Allen’s photo, which has since been deleted, shows the controversial pop star on her knees as a police officer appears to handcuff her. Two other persons who appear to be police officers can also be seen in the photo, watching on as Allen is handcuffed.
The photo, which Allen originally published via her official Instagram account, was captioned with the hashtag “#uhoh”. The photo was quickly circulated with help from her more than 4.7 million Twitter followers, before being taken down.
As The Mirror report, a spokesman for the Australian Federal Police has said that the incident was Allen’s idea, but that the police involved broke their operational protocol. “On July 27, Lily Allen was escorted by AFP members whilst transitting through Coolangatta airport at her request,” the spokesman said.
“Ms Allen requested a photo op, so AFP members placed open handcuffs on her and posed for a photo which breached standard protocols. Ms Allen has not been arrested and is not being investigated,” the spokesman stated. “The AFP members are subject to internal measures.”
