Labor MP and part-time DJ Anthony Albanese has made a truly bizarre critique of Tina Arena‘s appearance at Splendour In The Grass 2017 alongside cult-heroes Client Liaison, calling out the band for having “jumped the shark.”
Client Liaison’s amphitheater-filling set last weekend has been widely acclaimed as one of the highlights of the festival, with the Australiana-themed band thrilling punters with incredible set design, costume changes, and plenty of Fosters to go around.
DJ Albo has leveled criticism at the band for bringing out Arena’s to sing their 2016 collab ‘A Foreign Affair’, and her very own ’90s hit ‘Sorento Moon’.
The shadow transport and tourism minister tweeted yesterday “The moment when @clientliaison jumped the shark by having @tinaarena joing them for @SITG on the main stage.”

Twitter has predictably called him out for the weird take, with many responding saying that they, in contrast, thought the performance was “excellent” and “awesome.”
We guess it’s possible that Albo has misunderstood the meaning of the phrase, as he responded to one tweet that retorted that the show was “pretty awesome,” with “Don’t disagree – #justsaying it was out there.”
Regardless of his intentions, his summary that Client Liaison’s performance at Splendour was “out there” may be one of the understatements of the year about a band who thrives off theatricality.
For her part Arena linked Albo to an article recalling the top five moments from Splendour – her appearance included.

Don’t fear if you missed them at Splendour, as Client Liaison’s shareholders have already announced that in celebration of record profits for the band/fashion label/limousine enterprise, they’ll be heading back on the road this August and September.
The band have declined to comment to Music Feeds in response to Albo’s comment.
