It’s been nine years, a few confusing announcements, and a festival appearance here and there (including 2017 Unify Gathering), but Alexisonfire is back baby.
With their new single ‘Familiar Drugs’ out today, the Canadian post-hardcore band have backed up those cryptic social posts that were driving fans crazy.
Sharing three posts of black squares on Instagram earlier this week as well as a six second teaser video on Twitter earlier this month, fans having been salivating for any news on the Alexisonfire front.
The track was produced by Alexisonfire as well as their long time friend Karl Bareham from City and Colour, and mixed by Jacquire King (Modest Mouse, Kings of Leon).
Vocal lead, George Pettit says of the new track, “‘Familiar Drugs’ is about recognising you need to make a change in your life, being presented with the opportunity to make that change, and then choosing to do the same thing you always do.
“It’s about something very specific to me but it can be taken literally or interpreted in any number of ways. Most people have something in their lives they can’t quit: substances, unhealthy relationships, lethargy, self righteousness, a job they hate. ‘Familiar Drugs’ is about choosing comfort over self betterment.”
