Melbourne singer-songwriter Ali Barter has popped into the triple j studios to put her own spin on Tame Impala‘s huge 2015 hit Cause I’m A Man.
Barter also plays around a bit with the lyrics in what is a powerfully emotive cover of the Kevin Parker-written track, also making use of harmonised vocals in the bridge and verse sections of the tune, to great effect.
The instrumentation gets into heavier, grungier territory than the original, especially in the intensely climactic chorus. Of course, Barter’s pure and ringing soprano vocals are the star; echoic in their clarity.
Following that, Barter performed her dreamy single Far Away, once again complete with harmonised backing vocals.
