Alice In Chains, Mastodon and The Mars Volta supergroup Giraffe Tongue Orchestra have announced their debut album. Set to be titled Broken Lines, the debut is due for release on 23rd September. Not only that, they’ve also shared their first single Crucifixion.
Featuring Alice in Chains singer William DuVall, Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds, and former Mars Volta drummer Thomas Pridgen with Hinds and The Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman and Dethklok bassist Pete Griffin on board as well, you’d think they’d have all the personnel they could need.
But as was previously reported, and has now been confirmed they also had Juliette Lewis provide backup vocals throughout as well as inviting Jon Theodore – drummer for Queens of the Stone Age – to appear on the record. This album is literally crammed full of a talent.
With a list of contributors like that, it’s no wonder that anticipation for the project has been high since the supegroup formed in February. Keeping tight lipped about their plans ever since, the announcement today is sure to excite more than a few fans of their other projects.
The news comes after Weinman revealed the album details in a recent interview with BBC Radio 1’s Daniel P. Carter. making it clear that this is more than just a sideline hobby.
“This band has been the hardest thing I’ve ever had to achieve in my life. Many times I considered just giving up on it because it just seemed like it wasn’t meant to be,” he told Carter.
He had a lot of praise for the whole band, but was in particular awe of DuVall, calling him “an unbelievable vocalist” and “the most professional musician I’ve ever met.”
Going on, he discussed how DuVall coming on board was one of the key elements in solidifying the band, and making it work.
“From the very start it was something that was just supposed to be fun and kind of casual so, in essence, even if it didn’t work out that would have been fine. For some reason Brent and I kept just wanting to continue to try to find the right kind of chemistry to make this happen, and William actually was the first guy we ever talked to about singing with this project when it was just me and Brent, interestingly enough.”
Broken Lines is due for release on 23rd September and is available for pre-order here.
