Ex Crystal Castles singer Alice Glass has responded to her former bandmate Ethan Kath’s since-deleted comments about her involvement in the band, labelling them false and “manipulative”.
Yesterday, Kath shared the track Frail to Soundcloud, the first new song from the outfit since Alice Glass quit the band last year. Along with the track, he also posted (and soon after deleted) a statement playing down Glass’ involvement in the Crystal Castles project and claiming that people sometimes gave Glass credit for his lyrics.
“i wish my former vocalist the best of luck in her future endeavors,” read the since-deleted post. “i think it can be empowering for her to be in charge of her own project. it should be rewarding for her considering she didn’t appear on Crystal Castles’ best known songs…people often gave her credit for my lyrics and that was fine, i didn’t care.”
Now, Glass has responded to Kath on her Twitter disputing his claims, calling them “manipulative”.
“for the record, i wrote almost all of the lyrics in my former band and the vast majority of the vocal melodies,” writes Glass. “i was a founding member of crystal castles and shaped the sound and aesthetic from the very beginning. manipulative statements about my contributions to the band only reinforce the decision I made to move on to other things.”
She concluded by telling followers she is “excited to share new music” with them soon. Glass announced that she was leaving Crystal Castles last October, citing a “multitude” of “professional and personal” reasons for leaving and claiming her departure meant “the end of the band”.
