To celebrate the 50th anniversary of George Harrison‘s album All Things Must Pass, an all-star cast has gotten together to create the first official music video for Harrison’s classic single, ‘My Sweet Lord’.
Originally released in 1970, ‘My Sweet Lord’ has been given new life in 2021, with the music video featuring a fresh mix of the song by Paul Hicks (The Beatles, The Rolling Stones).
The release was part of a 50th anniversary edition release of All Things Must Pass back in August, though the reveal of this music video is one that is particularly special.
Featuring over 40 musicians, actors, directors, comedians and other artists, the ‘My Sweet Lord’ video comes directed by Lance Bangs, executive produced by George’s son Dhani Harrison and David Zonshine.
The cast, led by Fred Armisen and Vanessa Bayer, find themselves in a narrative where the pair play special agents investigating an invisible force. The likes of Ringo Starr, Jeff Lynne, Joe Walsh and Mark Hamill appear alongside Taika Waititi, Eric Wareheim and Tim Heidecker, George’s wife Olivia Harrison and more.

“Making this was one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life,” director Bangs has said of the project. “The approach was to represent the song visually while these agents and inspectors kept missing the metaphysical wonder around them. Images are choreographed to the sounds of vocal melodies, guitar strums, drum patterns, chord changes.
“George threaded a sense of humor through all of his videos, so we kept that spirit and filled the cast with friends and admirers of his music, many coming from the current comedy landscape.”
George Harrison himself also features in the video in archived footage from across film productions his company, HandMade Films has produced.
Says Bangs of his presence, “I hope that viewers can feel a sense of wonder and searching while they watch it, and that the song continues to add to all of our lives.”
