An Amy Winehouse Biopic Is In The Works

It seems Amy Winehouse will be the next music legend to receive the biopic treatment.

As The Guardian reports, the late neo-soul queen will be immortalised on screen in a new movie, which is slated to start shooting next year.

The film is interestingly being executive-produced by the Winehouse family (who vocally opposed the 2015 Oscar-winning film Amy) who’ve pledged to donate proceeds to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, a charity that “works to prevent the effects of drug and alcohol misuse on young people”.

“We now feel able to celebrate Amy’s extraordinary life and talent,” the singer’s dad, Mitch Winehouse, said in a statement. “And we know through the Amy Winehouse Foundation that the true story of her illness can help so many others who might be experiencing similar issues.”

The news comes after the family recently announced the launch of an Amy Winehouse hologram, which is set to embark on a three-year world tour.

Meanwhile, Lily Allen’s mum — Alison Owen of Monumental Pictures — and Debra Hayward have been tapped to produce the new Amy biopic, while Kinky Boots writer Geoff Deane will be penning the script.

No word yet on who’s set to be cast as the leading lady, but we’ll bring you more news as it develops.
