Last year, iconic Sydney venue The Basement shut its doors to the dismay of many, but now the team behind Mary’s are giving the venue a much-needed second chance.
Jake Smyth and Kenny Graham are spearheading the revival, with the venue now to be known as Mary’s Underground, and will open its doors in May.
The best part about it is that its set to host live music every night downstairs, while you can get your fill in of burgers and beers upstairs.
“We love our city, and are extremely excited about bringing a fat slice of Mary’s slap bang into the middle of the action,” Smyth said in a statement.
“We live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, inhabited by some of the most talented folk in the world. Sydney 2019 is glorious and we are all about celebrating that fact.”
This isn’t the first time this duo has set their sights on reviving iconic Sydney venues, having done the same thing to The Lansdowne Hotel back in 2017.
When The Basement closed its doors last year, punters were so devastated at the news that they organised a #SaveTheBasement rally to try and keep the venue’s doors open.
There’s not too much info about when the venue will be reopening, besides that it’ll be happening in May, but when we know, you’ll know.
