The duo of Andrew Wilson and Oscar Slorach-Thorn, better known as Andras & Oscar, have released their first new single in more than nine years. The arrival of ‘Temperature of Love’ precedes the duo’s comeback performance at Naarm’s When Pigs Fly event this New Year’s Eve. It’s Andras & Oscar’s first release since the back-to-back albums, Embassy Cafe (2013) and Café Romantica (2014).
Over the last decade, Wilson has focused on his DJ and production work under the mononym Andras. He’s a resident host on NTS Radio and released his debut solo album, Joyful, via Tim Sweeney’s Beats in Space label in 2020. Andras is also one-half of the ambient outfit Wilson Tanner. Slorach-Thorn has been similarly busy, releasing a range of experimental pop, R&B and minimal improv records under the name Oscar Key Sung.
Andras & Oscar – ‘Temperature of Love’
‘Temperature of Love’ is a lo-fi house track that skates along on a Roland TR-909 drumbeat. Oscar improvises over the top, surrounded by analog echoes. “Oscar and I rescued a knock-off 909 from a pawn-shop and shot back to our studio in Maldon,” said Andras.
Andras continued, “We wiped off the dust, plugged in a microphone and red-lined the digi-delay. What you hear is that raw recording – four mono channels of pure energy, a celebration of dancing, love and friendship.”
Andras & Oscar are one of many drawcards on the lineup for When Pigs Fly, which is going down at Collingwood Children’s Farm from 3 PM until late on Sunday, 31st December. Also on the bill are Surprise Chef, Trojan Sound System with Stick Mareebo, Tokyo’s Chee Shimizu, the great Colleen “Cosmo” Murphy and plenty more. Find the full lineup below.
