The first image of Outkast member Andre 3000 as Jimi Hendrix for the upcoming biopic All Is By My Side has surfaced, ahead of the film’s official premiere at the Toronto Film Festival later this year, and the resemblance is kind of spooky.
3000, real name Andre Benjamin, is the spitting image of the legendary guitarist in the picture, although admittedly it isn’t clearest snap. The picture (below) shows the 37-year-old mid-performance, which is interesting considering the film won’t feature any of Hendrix’s music.
A synopsis for the film was released alongside the image:
“Jimmy James, an unknown backup guitarist, left New York City for London, England in 1966. A year later he returned — as Jimi Hendrix. ‘All Is By My Side’ brings authenticity and poignancy to the story of the man behind the legend, and of the people who loved and inspired him.”
No release info is available for All Is By My Side yet, but if it’s a hit at the Toronto Film Festival it’s sure to find distribution and make its way into cinemas. Andre 3000 has been no stranger to film this year, contributing a cover of Amy Winehouse‘s Back To Black to The Great Gatsby soundtrack, much to the ire of Winehouse’s father.
